Coffee and Health Effects

Is coffee good for you, is it bad for you and is caffeine even a drug? There are pro’s and con’s for drinking a daily caffeinated brew. You either love it enough to start every morning by clicking the switch on that fancy stainless steel ornament in the kitchen, then waiting for your early morning kick of caffeine! Or you dislike it’s bitter disgusting aroma, lingering around the kitchen, sticking to the back of your throat with every intake of breath which almost makes you sick.

Me, I can’t wait to get my caffeine kick first thing in the morning. It helps shed the tiredness of a sleepless night with the baby, right before I start my day. On the other hand my partner scowls at me disapprovingly as I’m drinking my morning java. She hate’s it’s taste and smell alike, with a passion.

The Effect of Coffee Consumption

When I started building this site, my intention was to build a website which would provide you with the best choices and quality of coffees, coffee makers and accessories. But my journey led me further down the ‘rabbit hole’ when it came to the effects of caffeine on the body, which is why I included this section.

Over 54% of Americans drink coffee in their daily lives. My suggestion is that the vast majority just ‘have to start their day with a cup of java’ and carry on drinking it throughout the day for refreshment, others connoisseurs enjoy the finest coffees of the world, sipping it perhaps in Starbucks. And the rest are, or think they are addicted to caffeine! I say ‘or think’ because one study I came across advocates caffeine addiction as just being in the mind!

The Health Benefits of Coffee and Caffeine

Once placed under a dark cloud for being bad for you, more recent studies rebuttal previous knowledge, because coffee is actually rather good for you! More seriously, caffeine has many benefits when you follow a healthy diet. A study at the Florida Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centre illustrated that caffeine not only hinders the progression of Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia, but could actually be a cure.

And you may also be interested in an article I wrote on how coffee has a beneficial effect on Type II Diabetes. But the most amazing discovery I made whilst investigating our consumption of this strange liquid and the risk to health, was that it could actually make you smarter!

Health Problems Associated With Too Much Coffee

Although it does affect the central nervous system because it is actually a drug, apart from getting the jitters from drinking too much, there is no association between coffee and medical issues caused by the effect of caffeine. Unless you are allergic to caffeine! From the American Cancer Society, to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration – All have debunked the Myths which surround coffee and have given it the ‘ok’.

And as I mentioned earlier, many people think they are addicted to caffeine for whatever reason. But if you read the article I wrote, you’ll see otherwise. And unless you already have coronary heart disease, then you are safe to consume coffee or take stimulants during physical exercise. And there is a slight risk of increased blood pressure. However, long term effects are minimal because our bodies develop a tolerance which makes them redundant.
